Counseling Overview

The counselors in Student Counseling Services help you to set goals to do your best to manage your emotions, to function more efficiently, and to be successful. We believe you have the ability to be resilient and can help you to develop that resiliency. Our Academic Support Services teaches note taking and test taking strategies while encouraging overall wellness for our students. While we may be able to accommodate walk-ins, it is recommended that you schedule an appointment.

In addition, the Dean for Student Services maintains an open-door policy and is readily available to discuss your questions or problems about life on campus.

Faculty Mentors & Advisors

Each College of the University offers a variety of academic support programs, including faculty mentoring or advising, to meet your unique needs as a student in the respective Colleges' programs. If you need help managing your finances, contact the Director of Student Financial Services.

Services Provided

Counselors are available to help students at Midwestern University effectively deal with many issues through individual and group counseling. Possible areas of distress may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Transitioning to Midwestern University
  • Relationship issues
  • Family concerns

Our purpose is to provide brief solution focused therapy.  Our goal is for the student to leave with practical and sustainable solutions that they can readily implement.

Costs to the Student

Counseling is provided free of charge to all enrolled students of Midwestern University. Based on an assessment by the counselor, it may be necessary to utilize alternative resources for specialized interventions. In that case, referrals will be made to a community provider.

Academic Live Care

In addition to on campus student counseling, MWU provides unlimited, free mental health services through Academic Live Care. This service is available to students 24/7 via telehealth appointments and covers counseling, therapy, psychiatry, urgent care, and other mental health support needs.
