Message from the Dean

Welcome message from Lori A. Kemper, Dean, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine

Dear Prospective Osteopathic Medical Student,

Lori Kemper

I am happy to see that you have an interest in osteopathic medicine as your future career!  The academic program at Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine has helped develop many wonderful and caring osteopathic physicians, in many different specialties.  Here at Midwestern University, we have an interprofessional, caring community with faculty who care about your learning.  In fact, our “open door” culture provides you the opportunity to ask the questions that will give you the deep understanding needed in a high-tech, high-touch future.

As an osteopathic medical student, you will be exposed to cadaveric anatomy, that includes the kinds of training that brings you into the 21st century, with imaging, allowing our students to more than imagine what that area looks like in a live individual.  You will learn ultrasound, not only through still images, but with your hand guiding the probe and your eyes distinguishing the anatomical structures.  You will also be exposed to the human side of medicine, beginning the first week, when you begin to learn how to do osteopathic manipulative medicine and to use your senses and medical tools to diagnose and ultimately to treat.

Our students are prepared to take their COMLEX-USA licensing boards (with pass rates in the mid-90s%) and to match into their best residency matches.  You will receive the tools you need to select your future specialty, including high-quality rotations with our hospital partners in Arizona, California, and Illinois, self-assessment tools, and faculty mentoring.

Becoming a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine is a wonderful step to a fulfilling future.  Osteopathic Medicine is one of the fastest growing health professions in the country.  We invite you to become a part of this exciting profession, starting your journey at Midwestern University, where the community is with you and supports your growth.

Your future colleague,

Lori A. Kemper, D.O., M.S., F.A.C.O.F.P.
