Years at Midwestern University:

I have been teaching for a little over three years at Midwestern University.

Research Interests:

  • Eye movements
  • Neuroscience
  • Contact lenses
  • Myopia (nearsightedness)

What is the most rewarding part of being a member of the Midwestern University faculty?:

Being an educator at Midwestern University is rewarding because, every day, you are imparting knowledge to students; making each student a little more knowledgeable and a little more confident and making them believe that they will be a competent optometrist is an amazing feeling.

How do you engage students in the learning process?:

There is diversity in our classrooms. Not only on race, religion, and gender but also in ways students learn things. One universal method only works for some students. I use audio, visuals, drawings, presentations, group activities, online quizzes, reading assignments, and classroom discussions to engage students in learning.

What do you hope students learn from your classes?:

I hope they build a solid foundation in the subject matter in my classes so they can build strong clinical skills and critical thinking.

Why should students enroll at Midwestern University?:

Midwestern University provides a friendly environment to learn things and grow. Students will get the teacher's attention. No matter which university students choose, the subject won't change "white part of eyes will always be white, and the black part will always be black." It is the environment students choose where they can be a part of the system and which helps them grow. Midwestern University has that friendly environment.

What lessons would you like students to take with them in their professional careers?:

Always try to find the cause of any problem or disease. You cannot treat a condition unless you find its reason. Always, remember there is a person behind the slit lamp or phoropter similar to you in many ways. Try to cure the whole person, not only the eyes.

What about your profession should people know more about?:

At least 2.2 billion people have vision problems globally. Optometrists are helping the need for vision care around the world. We practice evidence-based science. Based on new research and scientific discoveries. Sometimes your annual exam can save your life.
