Residency Programs

Midwestern University offers a continuity of osteopathic medical education from the first year of medical school to the final year of postgraduate training. MWU GME Consortium

Networking Health Care and Academic Resources to Create an Integrated Educational Curriculum

The Midwestern University GME Consortium is an integrated network linking the academic resources of our Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) and Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) with the health care resources of our affiliated hospitals and providers in both Arizona and Illinois.

Each program highlights a mix of ambulatory and hospital settings together with specially coordinated educational conferences for specific clinical topics and/or procedures. This approach allows for social and professional interaction with your peers and gives you the feeling of being a part of a supportive community. All programs and participating hospital sites have a common resident and fellows’ salary and benefit structure, policies, and procedures.

The Midwestern GME Consortium offers integrated postdoctoral programs that focus on primary care and capitalizes on its desirable location — not only in the physical and natural beauty of the Southwest — but also in this strongly active and committed osteopathic community.  The health care environment values primary care practice, and the physicians across the state are dedicated to teaching and mentoring future colleagues.

The strength of MWU's GME Consortium is found in these partnerships — the hospitals and physicians who are committed to the osteopathic philosophy of care. You will have the opportunity to train at the region's finest hospitals in urban, suburban, rural, and underserved areas of the state. Because managed care has a strong presence in Arizona, you will learn how to practice within this environment. You will also benefit from the educational expertise of Midwestern University, the only institution in the nation with two colleges of osteopathic medicine.

The role of Midwestern University/Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine within the MWU GME Consortium is to pool together and coordinate the medical and educational resources of the affiliate residency programs. The University will oversee faculty development, curricular development and evaluation, quality standards, and overall program monitoring.
