Course Description:
This course is designed to improve digital x-ray technique for those office team members responsible for taking radiographs. Participants will gain a better understanding of common structures and landmarks normally found in a full mouth series. Radiographic appearance of common dental restorations will be reviewed. Participants will learn to distinguish quality images from those that need to be retaken and to identify commonly occurring technique errors. Two hours will be spent practicing exposure and evaluation of bitewing and periapical images. Dr. Thomas McDaniel will provide lecture and hands-on instruction.
Course Objectives:
Learning Objectives: After attending this complete program, participants will be better able to:
- Create improved periapical and bitewing radiographs.
- Recognize key structures and landmarks required in radiographic images.
- Distinguish quality images from those that need to be retaken.
- Identify commonly occurring technique errors and explain how to correct them.
- Recognize the radiographic appearance of commonly used restorative materials.
- Recognize common radiographic artifacts.

Presenter Biography:
Thomas McDaniel, D.D.S.
Thomas McDaniel, D.D.S., is a 1987 graduate of the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. He came to Midwestern University in 2010 as an Associate Professor in pre-clinical dentistry after 19 years as professor and supervising dentist at both the Medical College of Georgia and Georgia Highlands College dental hygiene programs. Dr. McDaniel enjoys teaching preclinical students at the College of Dental Medicine, especially in the areas of Preventive, Periodontics and Radiology. In his personal time, Dr. McDaniel's likes to hike and participate in ham radio activities.

Cancellations and Refunds: The Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine-Arizona Continuing Dental Education (MWUCDM-AZ CDE) office reserves the right to end registration when the enrollment limit is reached and to cancel, modify or alter content, faculty or location for any course if circumstances indicate such a change is advisable. If the MWUCDM-AZ CDE finds it necessary to cancel a course, a full refund will be issued. No travel expenses will be refunded to the registrant in the event of course cancellation or cancellation of any registration. Full tuition refunds are issued if the participant cancels in writing two weeks prior to a course. Cancellations processed during the two weeks prior to course date will be refunded tuition minus a late cancellation fee of $75. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received three days prior to the day of the course or in the event of a no-show. Select courses may have individually specific cancellation fees and polices. A $50 fee will be assessed for all returned payments. Returned payments include returned checks and dishonored credit or debit card payments.
