Midwestern University invited community members to experience a “Day in the Life” of an osteopathic medical student.
The Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) recently opened its doors to community leaders to provide them with an up-close view of the academic rigors CCOM students experience on the Downers Grove Campus of Midwestern University.
Karen J. Nichols, D.O., M.A., MACOI, CS, Professor and Dean of CCOM, invited a group of community members to campus to show them "A Day in the Life" of a CCOM student. The participants included members of the Dean's Advisory Board, which is comprised of community and healthcare leaders.
"Our goal for this day is to broaden the curriculum of CCOM's medical students with the knowledge and experience each of you can bring to the table," Dr. Nichols said in her address to the Advisory Board. "We value your opinion, experience, and expertise. We want to expand the reach of the healthcare professions and better prepare future osteopathic physicians for the many nuances of this profession," she added.
As part of the day, members of the Advisory Board met with current students, visited numerous laboratories, including the Anatomy Lab, and tested their medical knowledge in a variety of classroom exercises.
