Midwestern Faculty Conduct Free Public Lecture on Opioid Epidemic
Three faculty members from Midwestern University in Glendale participated in a free public forum about the ongoing opioid crisis in America and non-opioid alternatives for pain management. The presentation took place at the Glendale Foothills Library on April 3rd as part of the University’s free monthly Community Health Lecture Series.

Midwestern University congratulates James MacKenzie, D.O., on his appointment as a Member of the Illinois State Medical Board. Dr. MacKenzie is a fellowship-trained Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and an adjunct faculty member at Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM).

Dr. Burnworth graduated from the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Pharmacy in 2001. She then completed American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)-accredited residencies in Pharmacy Practice (PGY1) and Adult Internal Medicine (PGY2) at Grady Health System in Atlanta, Georgia. Shari Burns, CRNA, Ed.D.
In 2004, Dr. Burns served as an adjunct faculty while maintaining a busy clinical anesthesia practice. She transitioned to part-time faculty serving as the assistant director of the nurse anesthesia program until 2010 when she was appointed program director. In 2016, she designed and launched Midwestern University's first distance education program: Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs). A nurse for more than 45 years, Dr. Burns is a retired U.S. Air Force major.

Michelle Swanson-Mungerson, Ph.D.
Dr. Michelle Swanson-Mungerson earned her Ph.D. in Immunology from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in 2002 followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University until 2008. She then became a faculty member at Midwestern University where she teaches immunology and infectious disease to multiple programs. She is a National Faculty Member for the NBOME and contributes to the COMLEX and the Foundations of Biomedical Sciences COMAT.
