CCOM Student Earns Golden Stethoscope Award for Research
Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) is proud to announce that third-year student, Rachna Karumuri, is the honored recipient of the Golden Stethoscope Award from the Indian American Medical Association of Illinois for her research. Ms. Karumuri investigated the expression of two novel molecular biomarkers in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), the second most common form of skin cancer.

A Midwestern University medical student has been selected for the nationally recognized Schweitzer Fellowship, a program for graduate students who aspire to become lifelong leaders in community service. Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine student Samantha Maurer (CCOM 2023) will participate in the year-long service-learning program that empowers Fellows to design and implement projects that help address the health needs of underserved Chicago communities. “I am looking forward to giving back to my community alongside other healthcare professionals who aspire to be well informed and committed to addressing healthcare inequities,” Samantha said.

Learn about Risk of Falling at Midwestern University Health Fair
Midwestern University’s interprofessional healthcare team is offering a free health fair for community members to highlight the importance of decreasing the risk of falling in adult populations on Friday, October 7, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Multispecialty Clinic, located at 3450 Lacey Road, Downers Grove, IL 60515. According to the National Council on Aging, falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries for older Americans. While falls can threaten older adults’ safety and independence, and generate significant costs, there are steps people can take to reduce their likelihood of falling.
