Kathleen H. Goeppinger, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Midwestern University, is pleased to announce the promotion of new members of the University’s administration team, as well as the new Dean of the Arizona College of Podiatric Medicine (AZCPM).
Matthew Sweeney, CPA, was promoted to Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and Gregory O’Coyne, CPA, was promoted to Vice President, Finance, effective as of August 1, 2021. Jeffrey Jensen, D.P.M., FACFAS, has been named Dean of AZCPM, and Victoria Franks, M.Adm., has been promoted to Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Mr. Sweeney has been with the University since 2011, serving as the Controller, and in 2020 he was promoted to Assistant Vice President, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Business Services department on both campuses, including supervision of Accounting, Accounts Payable, internal controls, and financial reporting. Before joining the University, Mr. Sweeney worked for Ernst & Young in their Chicago audit practice from 2001 through 2009. Mr. Sweeney earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Minnesota, and he is a Certified Public Accountant registered in the state of Illinois.
Mr. O’Coyne was most recently Assistant Vice President, Student Financial Services & Registrars, for both Midwestern campuses, overseeing student financial aid, student accounts, and registrar activities, as well as the University’s institutional loan programs and ongoing compliance with the Higher Education Act (HEA). He first came to Midwestern as the Director of Accounting at the University’s Glendale Campus from 2008 to early 2011 after working for Ernst & Young, then rejoined the University as Director of Student Financial Services in 2015 before being named Assistant Vice President in 2020. Mr. O’Coyne earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Information Systems from Arizona State University, and he is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Arizona.
Dr. Jensen joined Midwestern in 2017 as the Program Director for the Arizona School of Podiatric Medicine in the College of Health Sciences. Prior to joining the University, Dr. Jensen was Dean at the Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine (2010-2014) and Senior Director of Research at Barry University (2014-2017). As an active researcher throughout his career, Dr. Jensen has been the principal investigator of over 30 multicenter clinical trials for wound care related drugs and medical devices.
Ms. Franks began her career at Midwestern University in 2008 as the Assistant to the Dean of the Arizona College of Optometry (AZCOPT). She was promoted to Executive Assistant to the President in 2018. Previously, she practiced business law in Veracruz, Mexico and, upon relocating to the United States, taught Spanish as a certified K-12 Spanish Language Educator. She earned her Licentiate in Law degree from Universidad Cristobal Colón in Veracruz, Mexico, and her Master of Administration from Northern Arizona University.
