In addition to their academic and clinical education at Midwestern University, students at the College of Dental Medicine-Illinois (CDMI) often volunteer to educate the public about dental medicine and oral health. Recently, members of CDMI's Hispanic Student Dental Association (HSDA) attended the Burnham School's Career Fair in Cicero, Illinois. The students were able to share information about dentistry as a career choice and discuss the importance of oral health with elementary school children and their family members.
"Overall it was a great experience visiting our neighboring communities to educate kids about dentistry," said Ravi Barot, a second-year dental student. "Experiences like these reassure me that I chose the right career path," added Julissa Burgos, a first-year dental student. Community outreach is the focus of the student organization dedicated to promoting and improving the oral health of the Hispanic community.
