Maria Carr (CVM 2025)
I am currently a student here at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Midwestern University. I spent half of my life growing up in Tucson, Arizona, and the other half living in Gainesville, Florida. I received my undergraduate degree in biological sciences from the University of Florida. So far in my veterinary career, I am mostly interested in working with and caring for exotic/safari animals such as lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes, and so forth. I am looking forward to participating in rotations where I can get field experience and begin hands-on training. The biggest challenge I face with my profession is maintaining a proper work-life balance. There are always new experiences and opportunities available to jump into, and it can become hard to remember that personal time is just as important. My advice for those that are interested in becoming a veterinarian is that there are several paths you can take to reach your ultimate goal. It is easy to get caught up with the idea that there is only one path; however, everyone’s journey is different and just as beautiful.
