Tamer Elbayoumi, B.Pharm., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Associate Professor-CPG): Co-Director of Research & Development

Dr. Elbayoumi leads prominent academic and industrial research in "nanopharmaceuticals" for drug delivery and diagnostic imaging of solid and blood tumors, as well as controlled-release nanotechnology platforms for localized topical and transdermal delivery of skin cancer protective agents.

Her cell biology experience in cancer research investigates the role of exosomes and microRNA in the epigenetic regulation of cancer initiation and progression. Expanding upon her laboratory research, Dr. Hull has initiated a collaborative project with Affiliated Dermatology and Arizona Skin Cancer Foundation, to establish a Bio-Repository for fresh human skin biopsies.

John C. Mitchell, B.Sc., Ph.D. (Professor & Assistant Dean- CDMA)

Dr. Mitchell has over two decades of technical experience in the biomaterial and micro/nano-composite development and mechanical testing areas. Dr. Mitchel not only has two state of the art biomaterial research labs here at MWU-AZ campus, devoted to primarily to oral and dental material R&D projects. In addition to established government funding for his research, he has been involved in different dental implant and orthodontic material developments with several industrial production and testing partners, over the past few years. As the director for MWU biomaterial research center and assistant CDMA dean for research, his multi-project management capabilities are invaluable essential part of our novel oral cancer multi-disciplinary nano-pharmaceutical platform research.

Mingyi Yao, B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Assistant Professor-CPG)

Dr. Yao has extensive research experience in both cellular and animal models for investigation of microvascular injury and cancer angiogenesis. Her current collaboration within Nanomedicicne COE focuses on protein-targeted nanocarriers for pathologies associated with thrombospondin-1 protein, which is detected in both humans and canines, diagnosed with metastatic tumors.

Medha Joshi, B. Pham, M. Pharm, Ph.D. (Assistant Professor-CCP-Illinois campus)

Dr. Joshi is an experienced academic and industry scientist in the production and development of lipid based nanoparticle systems (including micro emulsions, liposome technology and targeted drug delivery) for both therapeutic and diagnostics purposes. Her MWU-laboratory is currently focused on liposomal carriers for intracellular delivery of anticancer drugs, and for evaluation in cerebral ischemia rat models.

Joshua Gasiorowski, Ph.D. (Assistant Professor, CHS-Illinois campus)

Dr. Gasiorowski is experienced in gene delivery, biomaterial fabrication, and various types of microscopy.  His basic science interests reside in the fields of mechanotransduction and transcriptional regulation in an attempt to understand how cells respond to physical stimuli.  With the help of several collaborators, Dr. Gasiorowski's laboratory is currently focused on using gene therapy and nano- to micro-scale biomaterial fabrication techniques for peripheral nerve regeneration and tissue engineering projects.

Richard Averitte Jr., B.Sc., M.D. (Clinical Assistant Professor-AZCOM/CEO-Affiliated Dermatology)

Dr. Averitte is an expert dermatologist managing over 6 Affiliated Dermatology (AD®) clinics in AZ. His translational research is focused on investigating molecular biomarker for the diagnosis and prevention of skin-related cancers. In association with MWU, he has established Affiliated Laboratories BioRepository (ALBR®), developing protocols for tissue and blood processing to allow the study liquid biopsy samples of AD patients (e.g. circulating tumor cells) and tumor heterogeneity, all in conjunction with detailed histopathologic analysis by the accredited clinical laboratory at Affiliated Laboratories.
