Tell us about your path towards medicine.
Growing up, I knew that I wanted to pursue a profession that would allow me to make an impact in the lives of those in my community. Through my immense interest in science and social interactions, I figured that medicine would be the career path I wanted to take. However, I did not find my niche in medicine until my first eye exam. When my optometrist placed the phoropter in front of my eyes, it felt as though I was seeing everything from a whole different perspective. I did not realize just how much vision affects our daily routine, and I wanted to learn more. As my journey to optometry school continues, I am currently pursuing my Master of Arts in Biomedical Sciences at Midwestern University to further fuel my knowledge and passion for medicine.
What made you choose Midwestern University?
I chose to attend Midwestern University because of their commitment to educating future generations of healthcare professionals. The environment fostered at Midwestern University aligns with my desires to be at an institution that upholds high moral values toward patient care. The education students receive from Midwestern University is unique as they incorporate the concept of One Health, which encourages collaboration among students from different programs. With the faculty's guidance, I know that I will not only be successful in my studies, but I will also be a well-rounded individual who can quickly adapt to any future work environment.
What are you most excited about going forward?
After taking a few years off to gain work experience, I am most excited about going back to school and continuing my education in a new state. I cannot wait to meet my peers who share the same passion for healthcare as I do, and explore the surrounding cities, especially Chicago!
